For clients and users, this means: solutions developed by Phoenix Design are getting ever smarter, more intuitive and more intelligent – while at the same time incorporating 30 years of Phoenix Design DNA.” Tom Schönherr and Andreas Haug have already received the Lucky Strike Designer Award as well as the German Design Award Personality for their overall achievements. As a specialist for the sanitary and investment sector, he cares for international brands in the innovation process. "We are sensual beings. People want to experience and understand their environment rationally and emotionally. The essence of true innovation serves rather than dominate. Therefore, you have to get to know the human being first. Design gives a meaning to the technological and socio-cultural development." For our long-standing client Hansgrohe SE, he assumes the project lead in the field of fittings. His expertise extends to business and strategy management. In addition, Andreas Diefenbach is responsible for the client management at Phoenix Design and as a member of the Innovation and Academy Lab, he is actively involved in creating new ideas and design concepts.

  • Yifan Zhang, General Manager China of Phoenix Design

Yifan Zhang, General Manager China of Phoenix Design

Yifan Zhang (*1987) is General Manager China and leads the Phoenix Design studio in Shanghai. As an international background designer who has studied and worked both in China and Germany, Yifan Zhang is committed to combining German design quality and design philosophy with the evolving Chinese design. He applies the successful experience of German Design by brand building, strategy thinking and design quality to Chinese enterprises. “By expanding our studio in Shanghai, we want to optimize our large know-how for the benefit of our European and Asian clients. We have to think global, but at the same time, we want to get even closet to our clients and their markets. Only in this way will substantial innovations come about”. And at the same time to help the successful German brands, through a better culture and market understanding, to get a better business development in China.

Logic, Morals and Magic. Since 1987, Phoenix Design has been designing interaction: between the product and the user, between the brand and the consumer, between designers and their clients. Cases in point: How do you promote an evolutionary change in how to take a shower? With a shower head designed for Hansgrohe that allows decalcification by the sweep of one finger – and that changes its water jet by the push of a button. How do you manage to achieve differentiation in a market replete with seemingly similar products? With camera lenses that convey the unique precision of the Zeiss brand right at first glance. How can house owners keep control of their building technology at any time, using an app? With the Viessmann “Home Automation System”. Building technology these days is much more than just a switch and a boiler; it is a complex system of technological and digital products featuring future-oriented technologies.

For many years now, Phoenix Design has been defending the Number One rank at the “iF ranking creative” at the iF design award as best external design office, and we have received more than 750 design prizes. Phoenix Design is regarded as the leading independent product and interface design studio in the world. What’s much more important: these designs are convincing in terms of longevity and verifiable business success. In this respect, Phoenix Design follows the tradition of Bauhaus and Ulm school – embodying the virtues of German design. This also holds true for the ever more closely interlocking design of products and digital interfaces. Today, more than a third of the 70 Phoenix Design employees work on Interaction Design topics.

Consistently oriented towards the user and typical for the brand, in open exchange with interdisciplinary design teams and the clients: that’s how Phoenix Design develops product and entire product ranges. In a word, with: logic, morals and magic.
