A Digital Shower System Centred Around hansgrohe Rainfinity
hansgrohe presented their new shower family “Rainfinity”, designed by PHOENIX at the ISH 2019 in Frankfurt/Germany. In combination with the “hansgrohe Home” App, also designed by PHOENIX and RainTunes an innovative, digital shower system for the bathroom.
The long-standing partnership between hansgrohe and PHOENIX thus enters a new dimension. In a comprehensive, interdisciplinary project, both companies have re-thought the core competence of the hansgrohe brand, translating it into a digital shower system. In this project, a wide range of disciplines as well as processes and work approaches have come together. Thus, hansgrohe and PHOENIX together have created an environment fit for the future where digital ideas may grow and succeed. The project also spawned the hansgrohe InnoLAB which today serves as an incubator for further initiatives.
Digital Shower System
“Make it digital” was the clear-cut assignment. But what does this really mean in the shower and in the bathroom? Which path is the right one for hansgrohe to take? With Rainfinity, PHOENIX has created a shower family as well as conclusive services around the hansgrohe brand – always with a clear focus on the user. The solution that has thus come about is individual, realistic, transforming for hansgrohe, and at the same time users will be surprised and enthusiastic.
Taking a shower is both hygienic and relaxing, and it is a very personal ritual which should accommodate a wide range of ever changing needs. From an invigorating start into each new day via the revitalising cool-down after sports all the way to a relaxing calm-down for a good night’s sleep.
The digital shower system comprises the Rainfinity shower family (already prize-winning, with the iF Design Award Gold and the Red Dot: Best of the Best) in combination with the “hansgrohe Home” app.
It allows to select various shower scenarios – “RainTunes” – catering to different needs. Each RainTune scenario is in synch with water temperature and jet intensity, and controls lighting, music, and other multimedia applications. This allows for expressing a practically unlimited number of shower experiences. The scenarios were developed in close collaboration with neurologists, physiotherapists, dermatologists, aroma therapists and sound designers. Rainfinity Shower Family
With Rainfinity, PHOENIX has designed a new archetype which comes across as progressive yet familiar. It combines new efficient technology with real user demands in an innovative way. The hansgrohe Rainfinity shower head offers a more intense shower experience perfectly adapted to the shape of one’s body. Moreover, the shower head may be angled at between 20 and 40 degrees. The user decides about the reach of the water jet so as to be able to experience the comfortable sensation of well-being when under a shower without necessarily having to get face and hair wet.
In addition, the new “PowderRain” jet features four times the number of openings, which are also smaller than usual, so that the water jet is both very gentle and efficient. The balanced contrast between very controlled, geometrical lines and friendly and soft surfaces allows for a seamless blend with modern architecture. A wide range of surfaces, from matte to subtly structured, offer great design possibilities for interior decorators.
