The Munich Creative Business Week (MCBW) taking place 3–11 March 2018 once again attracted international top designers, architects, creative professionals and business representatives to the Bavarian capital. Matching the motto “Design Transforms”, Phoenix Design delivered two contributions and present trends and design concepts around the theme of water.
Design for digital water
Water is arguably the most important resource on our planet. Water means life, water means energy, water means well-being, water is the basis of our existence, and an archaic, valuable good. But what is the impact of trends such as the increasing digitisation of our surroundings, individualisation, and self-optimisation on this one basic element and the way we handle it? Digitisation re-defines the way we use water, offering opportunities to provide intelligent support for routine tasks like drinking – for a more conscious lifestyle.
On Saturday 3 March 2018, the opening day of MCBW, Stefan Andreesen, Principal Designer at Phoenix Design, discussed this top-interest topic in his lecture “Water – a Digital Element?”. How will the way we handle and perceive water change as a result of the trends of the 21st century? Individual well-being tendencies are calling for solutions fulfilling our wish for positive experiences. He presented possibilities for combining water consumption with digital services and extending this combination in ways that are playful while at the same time making eminent sense.
About 100 guests came to Phoenix Design for the design talk "digital water" on Wednesday, 7 March 2018. Andreas Diefenbach (Member of the Board, Phoenix Design), Michael Heintschel (CEO, Heintschel Marken), Niklas Ehrhardt (Research Fellow, University of Stuttgart) discussed the topic with Carolin Schmitt (UX Designer, Phoenix Design) as host. Our experts from business, design, and science demonstrated the opportunities and challenges that come with designing a digital ecosystem whose starting point is a non-digital, vital element.
