The iF DESIGN AWARD 2026 showed its worldwide importance again this year. Over 2,000 guests from 42 countries came together at Berlin’s sold-out Friedrichstadt-Palast to celebrate. More than 10,000 entries from 68 countries were judged by 131 independent experts, making this competition a true showcase of top international design.
As the world changes quickly, design is becoming more important than ever. At the award ceremony, speakers highlighted how design helps shape how new technologies, especially AI, serve people, create value, and guide the future in a responsible way.
A key highlight for PHOENIX is winning the iF DESIGN AWARD Gold for nunc. in the Product Design category, which is the competition’s top honour.
Created together with Next Level Coffee, nunc. changes what an espresso machine can be by integrating it into a smart, connected system. It brings together hardware, software, and user experience to make home coffee easier and better than ever.
The project is guided by a simple idea: technology should help the experience, not take it over. This approach, known as Shy Tech, keeps the focus on the human side of making coffee, while smart technology works quietly in the background.
The jury praised nunc. for its clear design, excellent craftsmanship, and easy-to-use interface, calling it “design geometry in perfection.” Using machine learning and smart algorithms, the system automatically adjusts grind size, temperature, and flow, enabling barista-quality coffee at home.
This achievement is special because PHOENIX first received an iF Award for the nunc concept in 2021. Now, five years later, the finished product has earned the Gold Award, showing the value of long-term teamwork and trust.
In addition to the Gold Award, PHOENIX won six more iF DESIGN AWARDs in different categories. These awards show the studio’s wide-ranging skills, from creating new products to building complete design systems, and its talent for turning tough problems into useful, user-focused solutions.
